AUTIXON / OPERATIONS

Availability Calculator

Operational or intrinsic availability using an explicit formula.

Inputs

Illustrative example values — replace them with data from your analysis period.

Results

Availability96.77 %

This is operational availability for the entered observation window.

Formula and scope

Operational availability = recorded uptime / total observed time. It includes all downtime represented in the observation.

Results use only visible inputs. OEE thresholds are configurable references, never universal standards. Downtime costs are scenario estimates, not accounting measurements; avoid adding a cost already included in the unit value or contribution margin.

Equipment Availability Calculator

Calculate operational availability from uptime or intrinsic availability from MTBF and MTTR.

Calculation method

Operational mode divides recorded uptime by observed time. Reliability mode divides MTBF by MTBF plus MTTR; the two definitions describe different scopes.

Formulas used

  • Operational availability = uptime / total observed time
  • Intrinsic availability = MTBF / (MTBF + MTTR)

Worked example

Example: 720 h uptime over 744 h observed gives 96.8% operational availability.

How to interpret the result

State the selected definition whenever reporting the percentage; operational and intrinsic values are not interchangeable.

Common mistakes

  • Mixing calendar and scheduled operating time.
  • Calling intrinsic availability operational availability.

Scope and limitations

  • Use one consistent observation boundary and validated production or maintenance records.

Frequently asked questions

What is equipment availability?

It is the share of the defined observation time during which the asset is available under the selected definition.

Why do MTBF and MTTR produce a different result?

They describe intrinsic repairable-equipment behavior and omit many operational delays.

Can availability be compared across machines?

Only when time boundaries, downtime categories and data quality are equivalent.
