Calculation method
Daily demand multiplied by autonomy gives usable storage. The reserve fraction then converts usable capacity to nominal tank or basin volume.

Worked example
37.5 m³/day for two days gives 75 m³ usable; with 20% reserve, nominal storage is 93.75 m³.
How to interpret the result
Compare nominal requirement with existing usable geometry and source refill capacity, not only the nameplate tank volume.
Common mistakes
- Adding the reserve percentage instead of dividing by the usable fraction.
- Ignoring dead volume and freeboard.
- Sizing without source refill rate.
Scope and limitations
- Evaporation, sediment, emergency fire reserve and structural design are outside this preliminary volume calculation.
